Welcome to ohare knives!

Sean O'Hare is owner and operator of ohare knives and is very proud to be able to share his knives and knife making with you. Sean is committed to making highly functional yet visually pleasing knives with the strength and durability to last a lifetime.

Our knives are all stock removal using mostly flat grinding but when it makes sense for a given design we will hollow grind as well. We strive to ensure that the materials used will best suit the intended tasks for a given knife. For steel we prefer to use either ATS-34, CPM S30V, O1, or damasteel as these steels are of excellent quality and well suited to knife making. We have also recently added CPM154CM to our line of steel and are offering it on all of our knife designs.

For handle material we tend to use G10, Micarta, and Stabilized Woods for most of our knives but will also use mammoth ivory, water buffalo horn, and northern antler. Arizona Desert Ironwood has also been added to our inventory and although not stabilized we can say for sure that this stuff is hard! We do our best to use handle materials that not only look great but will stand the test of time.

We are always adding new designs and refining old ones when changes are shown to further improve the design. Many of our designs are a direct result of customer feedback. An example of this is the Little Bear knife design. A particular customer was interested in a small easily stoweable knife for hunting where he could easily place his index finger on the end of the blade for gutting.

Things to watch for in coming months:
~ We've been bitten by the big knife bug! Watch out for more large knives in the near future.
~ Sean is starting to design folding knives and already has two designs on the go.
~ Over the next year we hope to develop a line of kitchen cutlery knives. Currently we offer steak knives with or without bolsters and are looking to tackle chef's knives next.
